I’m an influencer – I broke my ankle doing this ‘dangerous’ TikTok trend

Emily Webb was standing in the middle of the road when a car hit her, breaking her ankle and leaving her screaming in pain.

But it wasn’t a random accident or a hit and run, it was an internet trend gone wrong.

If you type the words “trend trust him” on TikTok, videos that have amassed millions of views of women risking their safety to prove their trust in their male partners will appear.Â

It works like this:

Women stand in the middle of the road.

Their boyfriend will go full speed, or sometimes slower, straight ahead towards their girlfriend in order to brake before they crash into her.

There is simply nothing to do with these things.

Women will post captions like “safe to say I trust you” or “I trust him with my life”.

Webb, 25, lives in Australia and decided to try the trend for himself.

She is single so she got a male friend to do it with her.

The footage shows Ms. Webb stands in the middle of the road, looking confident in a crop top and shorts

She believes her friend will stop in time, just like other men online did.

The driver doesn’t, and instead of braking in time, the car crashes into the young Aussie and you can see the pain on her face as she falls to the ground.

“Stop! Go back, Mrs. Webb shouted. The driver sped back, but the damage was done

She fell to the ground and screamed in pain.

For a second there, her leg got stuck under the car, and now she is seriously injured due to the failed attempt at the trend.

“My friend didn’t break in time and it went through my ankle, causing a possible fracture,” she told news.com.au.

But she has not regretted trying this trend after the video became a good content and posted it on social networks.

“I don’t regret it. But I definitely don’t want to get hit by a car again. I feel lucky that it wasn’t an inch further. It could have been a lot worse,” she said.

“It seemed like a really fun, exciting trend and we could make a cool video. I knew the trend was dangerous, but social media makes it feel a lot less serious when everyone else is doing it well.

“I’ve learned I can’t trust a man.”

She is now facing a long recovery process, but is relieved that it won’t affect her work too much.

“The injury will definitely affect my work as a content creator a bit, it limits what I can do for a few weeks,” she said.

“Having said that, I’m incredibly lucky to be self-employed and able to work around my schedule.”

Online commentary on the trend is mixed.

Some have labeled it too “dangerous” and others have expressed fears that if they tried it, their loved ones would “accidentally” bump into them.

Some have said their loved ones would refuse to do the trend because they wouldn’t want to “compromise” their safety.

Young people are also being influenced by the trend, even when they realize it’s not safe: “I want to do this but I’m scared,” wrote one.
